Jeanfield Swifts AFC hosted St. Patricks U19s in the second round of the Scottish Cup at the Riverside, with the pitch in pristine condition, setting the stage for an exciting match. The visitors seemed slightly unsettled, perhaps due to the absence of their usual artificial turf.
At 13 minutes, Jeanfield opened the scoring with a perfectly delivered inswinging free kick by R. Green, which B. Calderwood met with a towering header, sending the ball over the keeper and into the net.
In the 29th minute, B. Calderwood rose highest again, this time from a corner. His header found its way to R. Green, whose quick swivel and shot navigated through a crowd of defenders to double the lead.
Just before halftime, in the 44th minute, Kros. Brown delivered a low cross into the box. B. Calderwood deftly laid the ball off for K. Mitchell, who turned swiftly and fired a shot past the goalkeeper for a commanding 3-0 lead.
Jeanfield continued their dominance in the second half. At 63 minutes, A. Abboud received a pass and flicked it to Kros. Brown, who played a precise low cross to the far post, where J. Howie tapped in with ease for the fourth goal.
The 74th minute saw A. Philips whip in a cross, which A. Abboud narrowly missed. However, Kros. Brown was lurking at the back post to smash the ball home for Jeanfield's fifth goal.
St. Patricks managed to pull one back in the 81st minute when a ball over the top of the defense allowed them to break through and flick the ball past the onrushing keeper.
Jeanfield responded quickly, and in the 89th minute, L. McManamon found A. Abboud, whose clever flick set K. Mitchell through on goal. The captain made no mistake, rifling the ball past the keeper to seal the 6-1 victory.
