In a game that marked the dawn of a new era for Jeanfield Swifts AFC, newly appointed manager Mark Allison took charge for the first time, fielding a revamped squad with 12 new players. Despite facing challenges with preparation due to a surprise early kickoff and a number of absentees, the Swifts demonstrated resilience and determination against Balgonie Scotia AFC in their preseason friendly.

First Half:

Both teams displayed commendable football, effectively cancelling each other out in the initial stages. However, Balgonie Scotia managed to break the deadlock in the 32nd minute with a well-executed corner, resulting in a close-range header that found the back of the net. Balgonie Scotia edged the first half and went into the break leading 1-0.

Halftime Team Talk:

Manager Mark Allison encouraged his players to relax on the ball and push forward, emphasising the need for composure and offensive drive.

Second Half:

Jeanfield Swifts came out with renewed energy and determination. In the 55th minute, M. McLeod's relentless pressing paid off as he won the ball from the goalkeeper and defense, delivering a low cross for new striker D. Harvey, who calmly finished from close range to equalise.

Balgonie Scotia responded with several attempts to regain the lead, but Jeanfield's goalkeeper J. Welch was in exceptional form, making save after save to keep his team in the game. In the 80th minute, Welch's long ball forward was flicked on by B. Caldwellwood, allowing J. Smith to beat the offside trap. Smith found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and coolly slotted the ball under him, giving Jeanfield Swifts a 2-1 lead.

Despite Balgonie Scotia's continued pressure, the Swifts' backline held strong, securing a hard-fought victory.
