Jeanfield Swifts 3-1 Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts

Jeanfield Swifts came from behind to beat visiting Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts at Riverside Stadium earlier today, running out 3-1 victors.

The visitors started the game brighter of the two sides, forcing Dalton into a good save down low not even a minute into the 90. Inverkeithing then took the lead on 10 minutes with assistant manager/player Tam Graham opened the scoring with a great drive across goal and into the corner - leaving Dalton with no chance.

Ross Gunnion’s side then grew into the game but could not create any clear cut chances. With a couple of corners and efforts from distance all that ‘Jeanie’ could muster. Whilst the visitors remained dangerous on the counter, Dalton had to pull a top drawer save out to deny Inverkeithing with a long range shot being taken by the wind and heading for the top corner, forcing the St. Johnstone loanee into a fantastic diving save.

Chris Dodd had a couple of chances with one sneaking just wide and the other being well caught by the opposition number 1. Connor McLaren glanced a header past the post and Paul Simpson had a shot deflected wide.

Then right on the 45th minute Jeanfield finally grabbed that elusive equaliser. Paul Simpson beat Mitchell to the ball before the ‘Jeanie’ no.10 rounded the keeper and fired the ball home to drag his side level.

Half Time: Jeanfield Swifts 1-1 Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts, Jeanfield started slowly but as the half wore on began to take charge of this game.

After a stuffy start to the second half Jeanfield took the lead on 68 minutes - with Chris Dodd putting the ball in the back of the net after the visitors had blocked 2 shots back-to-back leaving the ball to fall at the midfielder’s feet from close range who couldn’t miss - taking a well deserved lead.

Dalton once kept his side ahead after saving another long shot from Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts which looked certain to nestle in the top corner, a top top save.

It was one way traffic from this point onwards as Jeanfield searched for that 3rd goal. Struthers created some space on the edge of the box and took aim, but his effort was taken by the wind and flew over. Gary Fergus then had a huge chance to score however, his strike was well saved by Mitchell - with McLaren unable to put away the rebound.

Fraser Smith then forced another save from the keeper who had to parry wide. ‘Jeanie’ were really gaining momentum now.

On 83 minutes that 3rd goal finally came after an inviting Scott Smith cross was met with a flying Shaun Struthers header - with the number 15 throwing himself at it and directing the ball home. 3-1 up and cruising now.

Connor McLaren was inches away from adding a fourth only minutes later but his low drive went agonisingly wide of the post - the crowd began to celebrate thinking it went in.

It went from bad to worse for Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts who were then reduced to 10 men. Lewis Hynd received a second yellow and a subsequent red card for a late tackle on Chris Scott who was away on the counter. A stonewall sending off.

Final Score: Jeanfield 3-1 Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts

Jeanfield Swifts were back to winning ways this afternoon - bouncing back in the best possible fashion after last week’s disappointment in Linlithgow. A well deserved 3 points after a good attacking performance, despite going a goal down the heads never dropped.

A solid home victory for the lads and hopefully we can repeat that feat next Saturday when we welcome Hill of Beath Hawthorn to the Riverside Stadium.
